Many owners of home based Internet businesses use a blog to promote their business. Blogging is a great method to provide valuable information to people in a relatively inexpensive manner. There are a few different ways in which to blog so there is a method that will suit you for how you want to promote your home based business. However each has its pros and cons so you should evaluate these carefully before getting in too deep.

Firstly there are sites which are free to get a blog and they are very quick and easy to setup. They have various designs from which to choose, however, the designs and layout provided are fairly basic. Another negative point about these is that they are limited in what you can place there and where you can place them. The biggest negative is that you do not control your blog, in other words, your website can be shut down by the administrators at any time, especially if they do not like what is being placed there.

The other option is to get your own domain or website name and have it hosted on a specialized site and this will allow you to own your own site and data and there is only one negative with this and that is that it costs money. There are several stages and steps each with its own varying levels of outlay, so be aware of this fact and take your time and check all the details and costs very carefully.

You can do this yourself or you can get a professional to do it for you. It does take some time to get the blog up and running plus there are many options along the way for you to decide, so if you feel unsure of anything or if you feel that you are unable to do it yourself, then pay for a professional to do it for you. You have an option here too, you can do part yourself and then get a professional to do the more difficult sections or get the professional to do the whole job for you. If you choose to do it yourself, then be prepared to go to a professional for some assistance and ask for their advice and help as it is much better to pay for a little assistance rather than having a huge mess and bill to sort it out.

To get your domain name go to one of several sites who do this. They charge a fee to buy the domain name plus there are ongoing renewal fees but they are not overly expensive. You will be given add on options to purchase, most of which you will not need so only get these if you feel you need them. Choose a suitable name that is going to best represent you and your business.

You will then need a hosting site, which is a company which stores your site on their computers so when your site is being accessed by others it is not on your own home computer thus keeping your own files safer. There is a fee for this but it is worth it as this then you now have peace of mind as you are in charge of your site.

Your domain is then setup with a very basic blogging theme via the hosting site. You will want to change this theme. This is where you can have fun and play around with the various options such as color schemes and layout. You can choose from any of the many themes that are already designed and available to use, some of which are paid and some are free, or you can pay a programmer to design one specifically for you, however, be aware of the variety of charges.

Themes can be changed at any time so you could start with a free one that you like and then have fun by trying out others. Then, as you grow and get more familiar with blogging plus as your bank balance increases you can upgrade.

So now evaluate your own home based Internet business by looking at your current levels of finances and expertise as well as where these will be as you continue in you business, ensuring that your final choice is based upon how the method can be easily changed and upgraded as your business, finances and expertise grows.

Happy blogging!
