Hello everyone,
I would like to tell you a little about me (not everything, though, as a girl must have some things she keeps to herself!!)
What I mainly want to tell you about is how this blog came into being and how I want to help you!!
I worked continuously for 30 plus years for various bosses in various industries and like all of you had to put up with all that goes on in that world – office politics, being restricted in holidays, lunch/rest breaks/medical and other appointments, having to meet performance criteria to get paid which was also always another major issue as bills have to be paid so the fear of losing the job forced me to comply. Then there is travelling time and parking issues and all the other myriad of issues of working life. Plus, of course, there are family issues that need attending to but cannot do it because of “work” commitments. All this results in being tired and stressed out and health suffering because of it all!
The ones who suffer the most are the children!! Fortunately I do not have any children to worry about but I did see the effect that work did have on my workmates and their children and it made me sad and upset for the kids because Mum and Dad couldn’t go to their functions, spend time playing with them, not being at home when they get back from school, and, most importantly, not having time to talk to them to help them with their issues of life and to be able to guide them correctly and give them the love that they deserve!!! Then I see families in the shops where the kids are being yelled at to “hurry up” because “we have to be somewhere by such and such a time.” This affects me the most because when I see all this happening I recall my childhood and realise how very fortunate that I and my brother were!!
We had two very loving parents and were raised on our family’s poultry farm. While Dad was working looking after the chickens and eggs, Mum was at home taking care of that side for us. This way Mum was always at home when we came home from school. She would stop preparing the tea and spend some time with us asking us about our day! Then we would change and have a snack while watching some TV. Dad would come in just before tea time and then we would all sit down and have the family meal together! Weekends were always spent as a family, even our holiday’s involved going on car trips interstate!! My brother and I would go to wherever Dad was on the farm at the time and spend time with him, helping him with the chores, and visit with Nanna and our Uncle who lived in a separate house on the farm. We would also spend a lot of time playing at home, either inside our outside and Mum would join us at times and keep a very close eye on us, of course!! We couldn’t fool her ever no matter how hard we tried!
Both of our parents treated and guided us lovingly and gently but firmly. Of course, they had their problems and issues but they never let them interfere or show in their care and time for us!! We came first as far as they were concerned and it was evident to us that this was true!!!
The most important moral of this tale is that we both felt loved and cared for and secure because our parents were able to be there for us whenever we needed them!! Why? Because their business was a home business they could work their work duties around their family!! There is also another very important point I wish to raise is that time with family is extremely precious – I am so glad that I had this time with mine because now, sadly, most have passed away, however, I am left with all these lovely, warm and comforting memories!! I really want this for others as well and if I can in some small way help them to as well then this would give me the greatest pleasure!!
These memories have become even more precious and special to me in recent times. That is because of issues relating to my dear sweet Mum!!
As I said earlier, I had been working for 30 plus years, and then my boss became ill and needed major heart surgery and so modified his working life. So, I decided that I needed a break from work as well as I had never taken the long service leave that I would have been due had I been in one workplace for that time, plus I never had taken all my holidays that were due. Then, unfortunately, Mum became ill and needed more and more care. Even though I could have worked Mum did not want me to. As she was never a demanding Mum – she would always put our needs ahead of her own, I knew she really needed me home with her so I was only to happy to do it for her and I was glad I did, as this time was another precious memory time! Moving was never a problem as we already lived together with our two dogs. We made an arrangement that she would take care of my financial needs while I took care of her physical ones. Then, one night, she fell and broke her hip and needed to go into a nursing home. Well, I could have gone back to work, but I didn’t for a few reasons – firstly, I did not want Mum to fret and I wanted to ensure that she was being taken care of properly, secondly she missed the dogs, thirdly she still did not want me to, and lastly, I had been out of work so long that my skills etc had become rusty plus, by now I was already feeling exhausted physically and mentally. Then the financial crisis hit and I realised that we needed to get more income in but how can I fit in my daily visits with Mum and give her the daily “pet therapy” she needed!! Whilst I was working on this, sadly, she passed away. Things were put on hold whilst I grieved her and dealt with the estate. I also then needed time to recover – mentally, physically and emotionally, not only from the loss of Mum, but because of many other issues that had arisen over many, many years.
So I spent this time not only recovering but planning my future! I tossed around many things in my head – but the one thing I knew was that I really did not want to go back to work for a boss and have all those issues to deal with again – I just couldn’t do it – it was just too much to bear thinking about!! The other issues of going to work for a boss was of course, energy and brain power – and I was still lacking in those areas plus my skills had gone rusty as it was now five years since I worked so this would not help me in working, plus it wouldn’t be right to try to “fudge” through this. Other issues involved references – they would not be current, plus the thought of interviews and screening tests and having to “sell” myself was daunting to say the least!!
I was also enjoying the freedom of being able to do what I wanted, when I wanted – I did not have to ask for anybody’s permission to do anything!! This is real freedom!!! However, the money is the big time issue.
So, the question was – how could I get an income without having to go through the process of “getting a job” and still retain my freedom?
While I was pondering this a few things happened – a family member suggested that I work from home – good idea I thought but how and where. Then, a television program showed how people were making money doing surveys from home. OK – this is a good idea – let’s start there. So I did, and one thing led to another leading me to these home businesses I have now started and then these led me to the training and marketing sides of things.
Along the way, I have made many new friends, increased my skill set, been able to go at my own pace (which my body and brain dictate) and have a lot of fun along the way.
I want to stress to you that it is important to do things in your own time at your own energy levels! This is what I am doing and it is working extremely well.
I feel liberated, happy and joyous and looking to a bright, financially free future and I want the same for you and your family!!!
Love to all
Annette
